If you don’t have green to wear, stay home during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Chicago.
On March 12, lots of people congregated at The Bean, while others were hurrying to the parade that would start a block away.
The parade starts at Columbus Drive just beyond The Bean in Millennium Park.
Sorry I didn’t get closer or get pictures of the greening (dyeing) of the Chicago River. I chose to stay at home and watch from afar! Not very Irish of me, I know. But I did listen to my favorite Daniel O’Donnell CD that I bought once at an Irish Fest. Love that “Welcome to my world…”
What a great St. Pat’s it was in Chicago this year. I had a blast right up to the part where I got food poisoning and had to fly home the next day with a newborn.

Ryan- I read about your Chicago visit on your blog. The best laid plans… Funny if it’s not happening to you. If you come back next year, I hope your visit will be a little LESS adventurous! Lois

You’re so right. Humor helps lots of things. And it sounds like you know that our city is the greatest of all!

I miss that about Chicago; it had ‘community’ feel, but it was big enough that you could get lost in the different neighborhoods. Loved that dying of the river green and the fact the river was ‘rerouted’ from running into the lake, to running the other direction. Sort of like salmon spawning upstream!

St. Patrick’s Day is an exciting time here even if you’re not Irish. We drove south down Clark today from way north, and I think the partiers wearing green have already started partying.
