A Thanksgiving Day prayer in a riven land | National Catholic Reporter

A prayer to consider on this Thanksgiving Day in the United States. I admire writer Sr Joan Chittister’s courage and candor. She gave me much to contemplate.

    1. You’re welcome, Pat. I admire Sr Chittister’s lifelong candor and courage in dealing with hard issues. My first inclination is to shrink back “lest I offend,” a holdover from childhood, so I’m grateful she put her perspective in writing.

      1. Yes – I too shrink back. I am working at being bolder because the times call for it but it takes a lot of energy and courage and creates tons of anxiety. But I ask myself if I can live with myself if I don’t speak out. I used the story of the woman at the well to learn how to tell people what I know as the truth (like hard news for students to hear) while still respecting the other’s integrity.
