Life at 82: Y is for You

Yesterday, I woke up to torrents of rain. I’d already been wondering what to write about for the letter Y, and as I watched the rain, the song You Are My Sunshine came to mind.

Not a warm and cozy weekend welcome!

It took me awhile to find a rendition on YouTube that I liked, but here is one by Christina Perri . Her voice was sweet and tender, but also wistful. It brought me back to yesteryear. Especially to the sunny times with my late husband, and then to the sadness of waking up to find he’s no longer here.

Driving to church, I thought to look for other examples of YOU that hit home. I opened the bulletin and right away spotted YOU (caps mine) in our prayer of confession:

“Gracious God, our hearts are restless until they find their home in YOU. Forgive our pursuit of things that separate us from YOU. We pursue success, realizing it will never be enough. We desire more possessions, knowing they are empty. We turn toward the world and hope we will find peace, knowing the world cannot provide it. Forgive us, we pray, and may our wandering hearts find their rest in YOU alone.”

What comfort! I was reminded that my restless self will find my home, peace, and rest in YOU/God.

Driving home, I thought of YOU statements that have served me well since my husband died almost six years ago. When he was terminally ill, he told me: “I’m the one who’s dying, YOU are not” and added for me to go on living doing things I’ve always enjoyed. When I brought anything up that I was concerned about being alone, his pat response was, “YOU’ll do fine.”

To think the simple word YOU could give me so much to think about in one day surprised me! That’s a real plus of Blogging from A to X in April. More than any other time. I spend time thinking of words that start with the letter of the day, before I resort to a dictionary. And who would have thought a rain storm yesterday would have provided me with my word for today!

One more day. The letter Z. Tune in tomorrow!

PS I wore my black-framed glasses to type this with the laptop on my lap, and I could see through the top third! If you read Saturday’s, you’ll understand I’m even more confused!
