Growing Older: On Turning 83

I’m sorry I missed blogging on my birthday over a month ago. Now the climate in our country has changed, and it feels frivolous and irresponsible to chat about my life when life has been seriously disrupted for so many.

While some are happy for what’s going on, I am not. As a Christian, I can’t justify to myself how we as a country are treating people during this period of change. I hope that no matter where one stands politically, we can agree that human beings have an inherent worth.

We can clean up and modernize our nation’s computer systems. We can examine how our monies are being spent. We can ferret out graft and corruption. But, in my mind, this can be done while still respecting human beings.

And we can pray that our president and politicians can/will do so too.

Meanwhile, in these times of dis- and misinformation, my motto has become When in doubt check it out. There is always more than one side to a story. And there’s always fact checking.

No worries, I have not lost my sense of humor! But my life is good at 83, and it gives me no joy to hear the stories of others who cannot say the same.

Do you ever wish everyone would practice the Golden Rule?  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I do!

  1. It is a time of trial and much trouble. Thank you for addressing it straight on and with consideration for others. I am deeply troubled by the different “sects” in Christianity to the extent that we do not see in communion. How glad I am for thoughtful responses to the turbulence.

  2. oh Lois , what a heartfelt cry. From the other side of the world we watch in dismay and disbelief at what is happening in your great country. As a young child, I was taught that everybody deserves respect whatever ever their race, colour or creed. That man, the bully in the White House, and his cohorts don’t deserve our respect. One wonders how the people gave him a second go at the Presidency. Under his ‘rule’ Democracy has flown out of the window and is being replaced by Dictatorship. Is all lost!.

let me wish you a happy birthday
